MISWAK

The term Miswak (or Sewak, Siwak) refers to a natural teeth-cleaning twig made from the branches or roots of a tree, most commonly the Salvadora persica tree, also known as the "arak tree" or "peelu tree". It has been used for oral hygiene for thousands of years and is a traditional alternative to a modern toothbrush.
Description
A miswak is typically a pencil-sized stick, about 15–20 cm long. To use it, one end is chewed or trimmed to reveal the internal fibers, which form a brush-like tip or "bristles". These natural bristles are then used to mechanically clean the teeth and massage the gums. The stick naturally contains various therapeutic agents that are released during use, making toothpaste unnecessary.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the benefits of the miswak for oral health. Its use is popular across the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia.
Ingredients (Natural Components)
The miswak stick itself is a single, all-natural item, so it doesn't have an "ingredients list" in the manufacturing sense. Instead, the wood and roots of the Salvadora persica tree naturally contain a complex composition of chemicals and minerals that contribute to oral health:
Antibacterial agents: Compounds like benzylisothiocyanate (BITC) and salvadorine help kill harmful oral bacteria and inhibit plaque formation.
Abrasive particles: Fine silica particles help clean and naturally whiten teeth by removing plaque and stains.
Minerals: Natural fluoride, calcium, and chlorides help strengthen tooth enamel and prevent decay.
Resins: A natural resin forms a protective layer over the enamel.
Essential Oils: Provide a pleasant flavor and fragrance, eliminating bad breath.
Salicylic acid and Vitamin C: Have anti-inflammatory properties that benefit gum health.
Note that the term "Miswak" can also be an ingredient in commercial products like toothpastes (e.g., Dabur Meswak toothpaste). The ingredients in those manufactured products include the Salvadora persica extract plus standard toothpaste components like calcium carbonate, sorbitol, silica, and flavorings.
